Saunders Escapes Tragedy in Minneapolis; Schedule Released

Saunders near bridge collapse

Looks like Flip Saunders was among the thousands of commuters in Minneapolis when the 35W bridge collapsed on Wednesday.  Fortunately a detour pushed Saunders onto, as it turned out to be, a much safer route:

“I usually take the 35W bridge, but the ramp was closed,” Saunders said Thursday from Minneapolis in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “My daughter was driving in a car right behind me when the bridge collapsed — about 20 yards away from us. It sounded like a bomb when it dropped.

“I got out of my car and the first thing I heard was the kids screaming on the bus. I called 911. I didn’t really know what else I could do.”

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all who were victims of the tragic bridge collapse.

Pistons release schedule for 2007/2008 season

Today the Pistons posted their regular season schedule.  The campaign opens on Thursday, November 1st, with a road game against the Heat.  The next night the team travels to Orlando before their home opener against the Atlanta Hawks on November 4th.  Another Ben Wallace revenge game will be played on November 8th in Chicago.  The team has a west coast roadtrip through the middle of November before having their first true homestand of the season to end the month.  The team does not play on Christmas, but still has the annual New Year’s Eve game, this year against Milwaukee at 3:30 PM in Auburn Hills.  The final game of the season is Wednesday, April 16th, in Cleveland to face the Cavaliers.  That game could be interesting, as it is certainly a potential playoffs preview.  If the two teams are close enough, it could even determine the division — though there is plenty of basketball to be played between now and time.

Dice ties the knot

And key bench reserve Antonio McDyess got married last weekend.  Congrats to the newlyweds from everyone in the D.
