Around the Bases 3.4.07: Single Game Tickets on Sale Now

The Detroit Tigers field some groundballs at spring training.

  • Individual game tickets went on sale Saturday. The team sold a little more than twice as many tickets as they did on the first day of ticket sales last season, so they’re going fast. For your tickets, visit
  • The Tigers have finished taking care of contracts, so each player on the 40 man roster for 2007 is under contract as I type. The signings include such players as Chris Shelton, Marcus Thames, Joel Zumaya, Zach Miner, and Wil Ledezma. Players wearing an olde English D under contract make for a much more exciting baseball team.
  • Grapefruit League games are a great time of year. Games are played, stats are collected, and the win-loss record is essentially meaningless. Before taking their Grapefruit opener over the Mets, the Tigers beat Florida Southern 14-0 in an exhibition. Behind homers from Omar Infante, Cameron Maybin, Pudge Rodriguez, and Brent Clevlen, the Tigers then cruised to a 13-8 victory over the Astros. Bonderman was able to debut his changeup in the two innings he pitched, and was pleased with how things went. However, the unbeaten streak would not last forever, as the Tigers found out Saturday. Jason Grilli was absolutely hammered for nine runs (seven of them earned) in 1.1 innings, giving him an ERA of 47.25. The Tigers fell to the Indians 11-2, but rebounded to beat the Tribe 7-4 this afternoon behind two RBI’s from Magglio Ordonez and Marcus Thames. Ramon Santiago hit a three-run shot, and Kenny Rogers started, pitching two innings and allowing one earned run.
  • Curtis Granderson now has an account with MLBlogs, making him the second Tigers player to start a blog (Nate Robertson being the first). He also has a MySpace profile (hat tip to Billfer, Motown Sports, & The Dugout), so he’s making an effort to reach out to his fans through the web, which is always a great thing to see from our perspective. A hat tip to Granderson for giving some of his limited free time back to his fans.
