Pavel DatsyukHockey fans rejoice, for Pavel Datsyuk has signed a seven-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings. The new contract is worth just under $47 million, and the 28-year-old will continue to be one of the most important Red Wings for years to come. While Mike Ilitch did open up his pocketbook rather wide on this one, it is impossible to disagree. Datsyuk led the team with 87 points through Friday, and since arriving has continually improved his already great skills. The future for Pavel Datsyuk looks to be a bright one, which should translate into many more years of success in Hockeytown. Retaining top levels of talent is always crucial for the Red Wings because they rarely pick early in the draft, for years of playoff success have kept them out of the lottery.

Here’s to the future of Detroit Red Wings hockey. Expect Henrik Zetterberg to get a similarly structured contract when the time comes. May the young talent on the Wings continue to dazzle us for seasons to come.
