Around the Bases: Tigers Make First Cuts of 2007

  • Today the Tigers made their first round of cuts, and eight players headed out of Big League camp. Pitching sensation Andrew Miller has been assigned to Single-A Lakeland, and the organization plans to keep him there until the weather warms up. Two pitchers, Virgil Vasquez and Jordan Tata, were optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Double-A Erie received Kyle Sleeth, and several other players were optioned to minor league camp. [Tigers.com]
  • The Tigers beat the Devil Rays 3-2 today. Jeremy Bonderman pitched through four innings of scoreless baseball and Pudge went yard for his third home run of the spring. [MLB.com]
  • In the matchup against the Red Sox on Saturday, tensions ran a tad high after Gary Sheffield was hit by a pitch and Magglio Ordonez later took a pitch to the head. Maggs is alright, but benches cleared and Todd Jones was ejected after throwing behind JD Drew. More importantly, Magglio was a little dizzy afterwards, but appears to be fine. He has not played since the BoSox affair, but had hoped to make it back into the lineup  as early as today (he did not). [ESPN]
  • Rule 5 pick Edward Campusano has been turning heads while pitching in Lakeland. The Tigers have to keep him on the Major League roster in order to maintain possession of him, but the left-hander has impressed thus far. [Tigers.com]

  1. Hey, I have a baseball message board and am looking for fans of different teams to join. There are a bunch of Brewers and Yankees fans right now, so your input on the Tigers or anyone in the MLB would be awesome. Check it out at http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=106169 . It’s really easy to make an account, and we’ve already got some good topics started.

  2. when they say it’s ove. Mica Kingsley.
